Merry Christmas

What a busy week to end a big term!

It sounds like the children did a great job at the cathedral. I would have loved to see them sing, but wouldn’t have wanted to miss Sophie’s Year 6 graduation assembly. It was fantastic - a little sad but really positive and full of smiling, happy, well-educated children! You will have that to look forward to in another 6 years!

I would like to say a big thankyou to all the families of my lovely class. You have been amazing – really supportive of your children’s learning (all those letter-of-the-week pictures you have sourced…) and willing to help when asked. I have thoroughly enjoyed my two terms in Room 4, and my girls have loved getting to know the children, too. It has been fantastic to become part of the school community as both a teacher and a parent, and I am really excited about picking up another class in term 3 next year. I will spend the first 2 terms relieving at various schools, catching up on some long-neglected activities like : housework, gardening, exercise, coffees…. The girls are looking forward to being at home in the afternoons rather than at school, and just cruising a bit more. I know I will miss having a class to call my own, though!

Thank you also for all your kind words, cards and gifts this week. I would like to wish you all a merry and safe Christmas. Indulge yourselves (I will be). I hope Santa and good weather find you wherever you may be.

I am sure I will see you around school next year. Till then, take care.

This will be my last post - thanks for reading!!

Week 9 and 10 information

CAROLS BY TWILIGHT
This Thursday 9th December at school. Bring along a picnic dinner/fish and chips and please wear some Christmas attire (optional of course!) to the area by the big tree from 5pm onwards.
The Junior Team will sing some Christmas carols at 5.40pm in the new lunch area by the Junior playground. So, come along to join in with the festivities!
We look forward to seeing you all there.

READING PROGRAMME
This is the last week of our reading programme. I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Sharmaine Dale who has put the mountains of books away each week. I really appreciate the time you have given to do this. Thanks.
Please return all reading books that are lying around at home – the sooner the better.

CAKE STALL FUNDRAISING
Thank you all so much for your wonderful support with the junior cake stall on Friday. We managed to raise $413.00! This money will go towards a new sunshade for the playhouse area.
I was amazed at how much baking appeared from Room 4, when you had had very little notice. Thanks so much for supporting the children’s learning again.

CRAFT
If anyone would like to help the children with some craft projects, please come along on Thursday from 1.30 – 2.30 (then stay on for the library opening). We will also be busy at various times next week, see me if you’d like to help. Thanks.

CLASS PICNIC
Just a reminder about the get-together for Room 4 families this Sunday (12th) at the playground in the Botanic gardens. From 10.30 – 1.30.

CLASS LUNCH
On Thursday 16th at 12.15, we will be having a class shared lunch, as a fun end to the year. Please send along a small plate of food to share (something healthy would be fine!). The children will then be getting on the bus to go to the cathedral (see below). Please feel free to join us for the feast at 12.15 in Room 4.

CATHEDRAL SINGING
This is on Thursday 16th December at 1.45pm. We will leave school by 1.30pm. Louise Dennis will be travelling with Room 4 as it’s also Sophie’s leaving assembly at this time. I do need another parent or two to help on the bus (think: no parking hassles!) or feel free to meet the class there to hear them sing. The children have been asked to bring along a small unwrapped gift to place under the tree, which will be given to a child less fortunate.

PLASTIC BAGS
Over the next week, I will be clearing the walls, there will be a lot of “stuff” coming home. Please send a few plastic bags to school so that we can fill them up! Thanks.

Oops - more bits I forgot! It's that time of year....

It was great to see many of you at today's Run, jump, throw athletics. Thanks for making your child's day!

Further to the last post, here are a few more things to note:

Assembly
The children need to wear something Christmassy on their head tomorrow, if possible. Maybe a Santa hat or even a piece of tinsel wrapped around... thanks.

Friday's baking stall
The children brought home a notice on Tuesday requesting some baking to be sold to junior children on Friday at morning tea. This is to raise money for a shade sail over the sandpit outside Room 4, which the children have identified as being a very un-sunsafe place to play! If you are able to bake for this, please make sure no nuts are used. Thanks. The items will be 50c or $1, so please send a little change with the children, too.

Tomorrow (Friday) the children will be bringing home a booklet of words for the carols we will be singing next week (see below) and at the cathedral in week 10. Please help your child learn the words by reading them together, and even singing them if you can mamage!!

Next week the library is being officially opened on Thursday at 2:30 then the junior children are going to sing carols at school as part of the junior school fish and chip picnic tea. It will be great to see you all there.

Week 8
